A Day Like This
by Kelley McNeil
Anna is living the life she has always wanted... a house in the country with a loving husband and a sweet five year old girl named Hannah. On this day, all of that changes... Anna awakens after an accident to find her marriage in shambles and her daughter- apparently a figment of her imagination. Her quest to reconcile her memories with her current reality lead her to a range of mental health and parapsychology advisors. Delving into theories of mental shifts and multiverses, she sees shadows of her mother's mental struggles in the memories that consume her. Moments of deja vu take on new possible meanings and she wrestles with feelings of discontent while she tries to find her place in this new reality.
This storyline conjured memories of the pure bliss of young motherhood and of superstitions passed on in my own family. I was reminded that gratitude is the basis of contentment- along with so many other possible outcomes that can play "what if?" in our minds.
I loved the sensory descriptions... and the narrator's skillful depiction of each character in this audio version. Reminiscent of The Midnight Library... this story lends perspective to everyday life and reveals the choices we make in a new light.
