The Boy Who Loved Wicked
by C.P. Harris
DNF at 40%, skimmed the end.
I really liked the writing. The author is very talented.
This could have been an amazing story if the circumstances were tweaked a little. Like if Phoenix was in college instead of high school. It was just too taboo for my tastes. I’ve realized I’m not into age gaps where one is a teen.
I did not like Sebastian (the teacher). He came off as very self-absorbed, aggressive, and predatory. Giant red flags everywhere with him.
I loved Phoenix. But ultimately he was just a sad, lonely little boy who missed his dad and sought a replacement… and IMO, Sebastian took advantage.
The relationship felt too much like grooming and I was very uncomfortable with the references to a father/son dynamic.
