The Hooker and the Hermit
by Penny Reid, L.H. Cosway
2.5 stars... because I read it? I don't know, maybe I'll change to 2
There MAY be spoilers below, up to what you consider spoilers so proceed with caution.
My thoughts on this book:
The fmc joked that she thought she might have Tourette's because she curses a bunch of odd things when she's anxious ... ??
The mmc made a comment about having "ocd meal plans" because he likes to eat healthy to meet his physical health goals ... ??
Ronan's mom was described as "exotic," and even though she is definitely a white woman, it rubbed me the wrong way
The third act break up (I'm not sure I can even call it that) came at a really odd point in the pacing and seemed so forced? She started acting so out of character I hated it
The villain came out of nowhere and also seemed so random!
She called him a super sexy slave driver ... like no??
The pacing was so off... like one step forward, three steps back (@ Olivia Rodrigo)
Their communication was not it, it was hard to root for them when I knew something was gonna go wrong again in like one chapter 😭 how could they be going toward marriage if they can't even talk to each other about the blog 😭
The way she responded to the big reveal was so irritating, isn't she supposed to grow at all?
Overall, I did not really like this book. I just felt like the main characters were so unlikable and I wasn't very invented in their journey. It didn't seem like there was any consistent growth or tensions. The pacing was just weird, and the writing felt so forced, at times. 🤷♀️
