Princess of the Midnight Ball by Jessica Day George
4.0

Is it sad that this has been on my to-read list for 10 years? I just happened to notice that's the date it was added. Or is it just crazy that I've been on Goodreads for 10 years? Anyway, this book was so worth the wait. A delight. I'm sure it's the world today and all the stuff that's gone down this past year personally, but I have definitely been in the mood for whimsy. You can't get more whimsy than a fairy tale retelling. The 12 Dancing Princesses is one of my favorites. This version fleshes out the princesses, makes them all unique (sort of, there are a lot. So, some do overlap or fade together), and doesn't make them helpless. Rose comes up with plans; Lily shoots guns. They are cursed, but not passive. It was a fun trip to the land of Westfalin.
