Los Ritos del Agua
by Eva García Sáenz de Urturi
This was such an amazing book!
It picks up almost immediately after the first one ends, so you can follow the personal stories of the characters, while also becoming totally fascinated by the new case.
I love how the writer incorporates myths, legends and folklore of the area into the case. This time, it had to do with the Celtic culture in the Iberian Peninsula. The rituals and archaeological details used are so gripping, you'll be on the edge of your seat from page one.
This case is particularly interesting because the first victim is the male lead's first girlfriend from back when he was a teenager, and some of his closest friends become suspects. It's quite interesting seeing how this affects the dynamics within the group.
A very clever thing the author does (as well as on the first book), is that the narrator is the protagonist but from the perspective of his future self, when the case is already solved. So, sometimes, when there's a breakthrough in the case or the realized something, the narrator goes on and says something like "or so I thought at the time". That drove me crazy! I wanted to read faster in order to know why!!!
I really enjoyed this book as well as the first one in the series. The characters are well rounded, the setting is amazing and the crimes are chilling, twisted and highly addictive.
Would totally recommend.
