Iron Flame deepened the world of Basgiath in ways that made me fall even harder for this series. Learning about Aretia and Xaden’s background was a highlight, and the introduction of Poromiel brought even more of the rich worldbuilding I love. The lore continues to be this series’ strongest point.
Violet still manages to frustrate me—especially in her moments with Xaden. As much as I enjoy their dynamic, it also irritates me in equal measure. That said, the grief over Liam’s death was handled beautifully. It was heavy, heartfelt, and added an emotional weight that grounded the story.
I completely fell in love with Lilith Sorrengail in this book. Seeing how deeply she loved Violet, Mira, and now Brennan—especially after learning he was alive—cemented her as my favorite female character. She would do anything for her family, and when she died, I was absolutely gutted .
Also Violet, please shut up about Xaden keeping a secret. Not you have yours. She was so adamant and annoying about her holding a grudge against Xaden for hiding the rebellion, when in reality it was obvious WHY he didn’t and why he didn’t tell Violet. He proved he loved her yet she wanted more. It was so infuriating. The new characters, especially Aaric and Sloane, were fantastic additions. I also ended up loving Maren and even Cat by the end.
Out of the first three books, this one takes the top spot for me. It strikes a great balance between expanding the world, delivering emotional punches, and introducing memorable new faces—while still keeping me eager for what’s next.
