A light, easy read that maybe I expected too much of? Even though the stories cover a wide range of experiences and types of love, I was surprised by how one-note they began to feel as I progressed through the book. This could be due the word count constraint of a Modern Love column, the fact that the vast majority of the selected stories were written by professional writers, or me just being jaded — but a lot of the stories seemed to have the same tone and structure: self-deprecating humor and awareness, and tidy closure at the end about finding the one or finding yourself. I wanted more ambiguity and fewer life lessons! The most memorable story for me is still Amy Krouse Rosenthal's "You May Want to Marry My Husband."
