What the hell was that?
I was 63% in when I gave up. Sure, I'd love to know what's so special about Skylar, but I've cringed one too many times when I got to these lines:
Skylar giggled.
"What's so funny?"
"Do you always start your sentences with the word 'so'?"
Mason chuckled lightly. "Yes, I do."

Apparently, this is supposed to show Mason's "humorous side", but it made me cringe so hard. Not only did the story just jump from a rather dark mood to laughter and tickling in two seconds, but I could also feel the author giggling to herself while writing this and thinking, "Whoops, I used the word "so" twice. Better make a joke out of this instead of rephrasing it." Not to mention that I can't imagine a man like Mason chuckling about it, or someone as dim-witted as Skylar noticing such details.
Speaking of which, that character is so incredibly whiny! And when she's not crying, she's picturing Mason naked. In that same scene I just mentioned, she thinks, "I wouldn't mind seeing you shirtless." How thoughtful.
Another dull character was her cousin Kayla. Is she really blind enough not to see what's up with Mason & Co., even when they are stepping into a different dimension? And even Skylar was taking it with relative ease, considering everything makes her bawl.
Anyway, I can't say much about the storyline since I didn't get to the end, but if you value good writing, consider grabbing another book...
