lithiumghost 's review for:
Alice Isn't Dead
by Joseph Fink
adventurous
dark
mysterious
fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven:
A mix
Loveable characters:
Yes
Diverse cast of characters:
Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus:
Yes
Unique horror setting, great LGBTQ representation, a predominantly female cast of characters, and a black lesbian as the protagonist...
I really wish I enjoyed this book more than I did, because A) It checks a lot of boxes for things that are lacking in most media to this day, and B) I enjoy and appreciate Joseph Fink's podcast work (including the podcast version of Alice Isn't Dead).
But alas, I wasn't at any point immersed in the story, I found it a bit difficult to focus at times with the sudden changes of pace in right in the middle of a paragraph, and I'm pretty sure that if I hadn't listened to the podcast before it would have taken me much longer to grasp what was going on at times.
Hopefully I'll enjoy his next works as an author more.
