Kent takes inspiration from the real life case of Michael Leahy, and interweaves the stories of three very different women in 1820s Ireland. Kent is incredibly descriptive in her writing, painting a beautiful scenes. It is an incredibly slow burn of a read, quite dense and it takes until about a good two thirds of the book for the main action of the novel to start.
