Disrupted: My Misadventure in the Start-Up Bubble by Dan Lyons
Did not finish book.
I really wanted to finish this book since I spent $4 on it when it was a Goodreads Deal of the Day but even $4 is too much to pay for this book. I read some pieces by Lyons in other publications that probably went into this book and they were fine, but put together in a book, the whole less than the sum of its parts.
On the surface, an ex-newsroom guy working at a startup sounded good to me, an ex-startup developer working in a newsroom. The subject matter wasn't really problematic. What was problematic was his dismissal of almost everyone who works in startups. Lyons comes off as really bitter about his firing from Newsweek and everything that comes after and I had a hard time feeling sympathetic to him. The last straw was when he complains about age discrimination in one sentence, then turns around and writes that he wishes this woman at work would die as a severely overweight, old, cat lady.
