Just Kids by Patti Smith
5.0
adventurous emotional hopeful inspiring reflective sad medium-paced

I read „Just kids“ for the second time and was completely captured by the atmosphere, the poetic prose and the whole narrative. Patti Smith tells her story and the story of Robert Mapplethorpe, of trying to make it as an artist, of struggling to get by, of growing up, of New York city at that time, the Chelsea hotel and of trying to find ones own way of artistic expression. But most of all it is a story of love and friendship, of trust and belonging and art. I loved how Patti and Robert never doubted their artistic abilities, never lost faith and never stopped creating. And all the references to art and music were really inspiring.

I think I never cried as hard finishing a book as when I finished „Just kids“ the second time. I don‘t know what it was that made me so extremely sad, maybe it was the language, maybe it was because Patti Smith described their relationshio in such a empathetic and loving was, because their connection seemed like something really special or maybe it was because I knew it was a real story….
