Good Man, Dalton by Karen McQuestion

5.0

I loved everything about this book. The characters were wonderfully developed. The scenery made you feel you were actually there. The ups and downs. I loved that this author told how people can end up homeless. It’s not that people want to be there. It’s they almost always have no choice and there are way to many of our veterans out there struggling with things we can’t imagine. Two cousins who had never met became fast best friends. Greta from a farm town and Cece from NY. Greta had a loving caring homelife with a mother who adored her. Cece was from a rich family but very lacking in the loving caring department. Both had envied the other’s lives for years via Christmas cards each family received. Cece was treated like she had no mind of her own. She had a beautiful rich life but was very lonely. Even her best friends didn’t really care what she wanted. It was a job and they had to make sure things were done a certain way. Cece’s parents were not around much at all. Her little sister, Brenna, and the Nanny, were basically her family. She longed to be let in and allowed to live a real life. Until Greta arrived it was impossible. Greta was shy and didn’t have much confidence in herself until she got the internship at her cousin Cece’s. She had a wonderful loving homelife but not a lot of experience in big city life at all. She had always wanted to meet her cousin and with a job awaiting her she was able to meet and become fast best friends with her. Together they go on an adventure that changes both their lives. They meet Dalton, the “homeless” man that they invite to a formal event. Dalton and Greta had made eye contact earlier and he felt a connection to her. The three of them have a wonderful night with a few hiccups along the way, but it was a night to change so many lives. Cece’s to be able to make decisions on her own. Greta to fall in love and also to be a real friend to Cece, not just a paid employee. Dalton to help so many who were alone with no help and no place to live. This book touches on a subject that is so sadly a part of this country. To many people are without a home, food, medical help or caring friends. There is only so much a shelter can do. But with the right kind of help I believe there could be such a big difference made. With the type of medical and emotional care they can get back confidence they need to move forward. This was such a touching story. I could feel the sadness in the characters. I could feel the happiness and love also. You feel like you are there with them during their outing. The biggest adventure of both Cece and Greta’s lives. You want to be there. To feel the freedom they feel.

This was a very good book. It will touch your heart in ways you may not expect.

I love this author’s work and will be reading more of it. Another bit 5 stars from me.

Thank you to NetGalley, Lake Union and Karen McQuestion for the honor of having an ARC in exchange for my honest and unbiased review. It was wonderful.
