Tom Sawyer is a boy. That is very obvious. He acts very immaturely at the beginning of the story, and still does at the end, but his courage and bravery truly shined through that mischievous and devious exterior.  I appreciate how, despite in times of possible injury on himself, Sawyer's good character shined through. A story of boyhood and childhood, this coming of age tale is a book about growing up.
