All About Love: New Visions by bell hooks

hopeful reflective slow-paced

1.5

Truly the most disappointing read of the year. Aside from a few chapters of somewhat insightful social commentary, this book is full of religious platitudes and very repetitive generalizations. This is my first bell hooks read, and I was drawn to descriptions of hooks as a “renowned scholar, cultural critic, and feminist”……. This just isn’t it. “Provocative with a razor-sharp pen” ??? This felt like reading my diary from 10th grade in my ultra-religious phase. Soooo trite. Heteronormative & aggravatingly little nuance around topics like addiction, poverty, etc.
