These Violent Delights by Micah Nemerever

5.0

"How sick is that?" he said. "I'm just as much of a monster as you are.”

I cannot recommend this enough. I'm GUTTED and haunted and all those lovely adjectives that come with a book that slithers under your skin. The bare bones of the plot had elements of both the Leopold/Loeb and Parker/Hulme cases but it's entirely it's own story. And that story is amazing, taunt and dark (I can't believe this Nemerever's debut).

As someone who is a fan of fictional toxic relationships, this really hits the spot. Paul and Julian are incredibly, unsettlingly flawed and everything about their pairing is a disaster. But it's as intoxicating of a disaster for the reader as it is for them and I both dreaded the ending and compulsively gobbled it up. Amazing.

Also, still thinking about that ending.
