I enjoyed the world-building in the first book of this series. It was a quick read but slow moving at times. I found the Grishaverse vocabulary interesting but at times distracting (having not read any others Leigh Bardugo novels).
Like Alina, throughout the entirety of the book, I constantly wanted to believe the Darkling (I blame it on the redeemable morally gray characters) and felt betrayed by him over and over.
