I had a hard time deciding how to rate this book because I loved it, but it didn't capture me the way other books by this author have. I think overall this story is beautiful, and the characters are interesting and real. They are captured for all of the different parts of them that make them both loveable, and at times very frustrating. Particularly the main character, who is very realistic in her thoughts and actions based on her age, but as anyone can tell you - tween girls can be tough! I enjoy that the story was complex but the ending didn't feel rushed. I felt like I could really see, smell, and feel the house and the emotions that it carried. The ending was good, although it left me wondering how it ties in to the other book featuring this character. I suppose that is a good sign, as I did want more!
