Even though I guessed the twist in the first 20 pages, it was still satisfying to see everything come together and there were pieces of the puzzle that I still found surprising. I really liked how the two timelines kind of bled together in a way that really put you in the main character’s mindset and illustrated how she was having a hard time distinguishing between the past and the present; I thought it was a unique take on both the dual timeline and unreliable narrator tropes that you see in a lot of thrillers. However, some aspects of the final reveal just felt really convenient and didn’t make a ton of sense. For example: We don’t really see Tyler’s relationship with Cooper in either the past or present, so the fact that he was willing to literally murder for him felt like a convenient plot/shock factor device without a solid foundation behind it. Overall this was a good read, but not a standout.
Moderate: Drug abuse, Murder
Minor: Child death
