This was a delightfully dark, creepy middle grade. I really liked the MC Victoria - a girl who is smart and determined but sometimes not always likable. I thought her growth & character arc was commendable and I like to think about a younger audience reading about a girl like her. I also liked Lawrence, and their friendship.
The premise for the book was also intriguing. It got a little wacky and confusing, especially inside the Cavendish house itself, but the scary factor was well written. I hate roaches, and this book fed upon that innate fear of mine, and then some.
Not only was the book properly twisted and eerie, but the themes and messages laced beneath it all were important. I’d highly recommend this middle grade book to all audiences, though not for the faint of heart.
