The Book of Fires by Jane Borodale
4.0
Finally, after month's of procrastination, I finished "Book of Fires".
I am so happy I did. Jane Borodale has an amazing way with words; her language is so sensory, so vivid that you can feel the sun on your face or the smell of rotten London enter your nostrils.
Agnes Trussel is young and her family is struggling; her closest friend, her sister Ann, gone and her father cannot pay his debts. On top of all of this, Agnes is pregnant.
By chance she is off to London and begins an apprenticeship as a fireworks maker. Her journey brings her from the small countryside of Sussex to the bustling, colourful world of London.
With a cast of characters that intrigue and capture you, Book of Fires, takes you on Agnes' self discovery. She learns of the human condition, of the beauty of fireworks and discovers her own strength and resilience.
