Discount Armageddon by Seanan McGuire

4.0

I have always liked Seanan McGuire's... ethos? Aesthetic? Cut of her jib? Something. But the Toby Daye books generally left me feeling "Hey that was fun, maybe I'll read another one in a year or so," and the Wayward Children are too emo for me. But THIS - this is the McGuire series for me. No faerie politics or star crossed childhood sweethearts, and no time for brooding because there's a mystery to solve and important stabbing and kicking to do. Tons of silliness, but not (as I feared) make-you-sigh cheese. More like... gleeful irreverence. Occasional absurdity. For example, hordes of religious mice that yell "Hail!" whenever you enter the apartment. Fingers crossed that they stay this fun.
