Untold by Sarah Rees Brennan
4.0

I don't know what Sarah Rees Brennan is trying to do, but these subtle, punch-you-in-the-gut cliffhangers are going to be the death of me.

The first topic I want to breach is the romance. I see know that this isn't actually a primarily romantic series, but I was still disappointed with the romance in this book. (I'm pretty big on romance, so this is a big deal for me.) I mean, yeah, Jared and Kami kissed. On one singular occasion. I'm pretty sure it never happened again after that. There were so many chances for romance other than that, though. I mean, Holly and Angela kind of started something, and Ash honestly just needs to find someone else because Kami is taken. Even Rusty could've found love somehow. **sigh** I guess we'll have to wait for the next book.

I mentioned in my review of the last book that I really liked the world of sorcerer wars and stuff. I wish there was more elaboration on that front, though. Like, explaining where they get their magic from, how they use it, etc. The scene with Ash and Jared magic-sparring brought that to light.

Speaking of, I also wish that Jared and Ash could've had more bonding in this book. Again, there was a bit of that in this book, but I want more. (Sorry for being an ungrateful reader.) I can just imagine, though, a scene where they're talking about how they don't like being Lynburns and Jared comforting Ash about how he's not actually a coward and Ash telling Jared that he's happy he came back to their house and them acting like actual brothers - because it's pretty likely that they are.

I'm saying a lot of things that I wish were in this book and critiquing it a lot, but I actually enjoyed this book. Even though I'm confused about 55% of the time due to the ADD nature of everything about this book, I'm really liking this series. I liked that in this book there was more of Kami's family even though much of it was drama with her mom and her dad. I guess there was nothing I really liked about this book that has no shortfalls in my opinion.

(Except maybe Rusty. He's certainly made from the same mold as many of my favorite characters, and I loved how big-brotherly he was to Kami. My favorite scene was when he punched Jared in the face - ha.)

Due to the cliffhanger of this book, I'll be on the lookout for when the next book is released to make sure Jared doesn't get himself killed.
