The Magic Mountain by Thomas Mann
3.0

This is my first foray into the works of Thomas Mann, and I was warned that his work is long-winded. This tome is more of a debate on philosophical ideas set in the elevated airs of a Swiss sanatorium just before the outbreak of WW1. For the intellectual mind there is much food for thought. I have not seen the film but am hard pressed to imagine it would work as stimulating cinema as events in the story are there as a vehicle for intellectual discourse. Mann recommends we read it twice. There are too many other books I wish to read!
