Mr. Romance by Louisa Masters
3.0

After my previous debacles with this series, I decided to proceed with giving this book a read. Mr. Romance by Louisa Master is the third installment in the Franklin U series and centers around Charlie and Liam. Liam is known around the Franklin University campus as “Mr. Romance” because of his side hustle, helping folks plan the perfect date. When Charlie is presented to him, desperately in need of help, it isn’t to plan the perfect date: it’s to show Charlie how to be less romantic with casual friends following an episode where three people believed themselves to be dating him when in fact none of them were dating him.

This premise is absolutely silly, almost like a reverse John Tucker Must Die, and I found it to be fun! This story really makes for a nice, light read with some occasional spice and plenty of laughter. I love a good himbo in romance, and Charlie is absolute himbo gold. His good nature and his cluelessness make him a memorable character and the perfect pairing (imo) for a character like Liam. I also liked Liam, but he felt a bit more one-dimensional for me. He was more reserved and he never judged Charlie, which were certainly positive attributes, but aside from enjoying gymnastics I didn’t necessarily feel like I got to know much about the character as the story progressed.

This felt like a definite improvement over the first two books in the series, which I really struggled with for a variety of reasons. While I thought the story was much less problematic than the other two, it also felt much less believable (in terms of Charlie’s inability to understand his “relationships” over the years.) The relationship development between the MCs felt natural sexually, but I wish there had been more space for an emotional connection between the men. Despite these mild issues, I had a good time reading this book and found myself laughing at the story numerous times.
