I have 3 problems with this novel: where's the world-building??π, when we'll actually do something related to the plot ??π€·πΌββοΈ, and why, oh why the author decided to use this specific reasoning to bypass the danger of using magic??...truly.. Why?
Oh yeah...I DNF-ed at 60%..so, I tried π
Idk why I didn't check Goodreads to see if this is a romantasy or a romantic fantasy..it might have adjusted my expectations, but I fear I would still have DNF-ed π«£
Anyway...issue nr 1: world: we don't really get to see why this world is at it is, why so many people hate witches, or just how it looks.
I get is focused on the #romance but I truly believe spending time in creating a system for your magic, a culture and history for your characters, and not to mention, some geography π ..can only increase the quality of your story π₯Ή
Issue nr 2: we literally don't do the VERY IMPORTANT thing we need to do...but also don't really spend time actually building the romance?π€..I don't get it..the book flies by but you don't really know stuff about the MCs all that much....and ironically..I felt that we get more history for Gideon than Runeπ€£
All this small stuff, these unimportant 'moments' don't really advance the plot for me and it feels like someone should have cut them outπ€·πΌββοΈ
Issue nr 3 and the most annoying thing for me: ...I won't give you spoilers...but the #magicsystem is rudimental at best π ...and how our protagonist chooses to work around the ONLY way people can recognize witches...doesn't work ...please someone who read this book tell me how she can actually do that!!! Really!!π besides the complete unhygienic side of it all....it's so strange to thing that Rune in those specific moments had to minimize her whole activity and find a sure-fire way to 'collect' what she needs π€£π« ..come on...this is stupid.π₯²
Before I close this #review...I want to say that Rune doesn't have a reason to hate Gideon, fear and general dislike, I get it, but HATE??π€..no girl, he didn't do anything π€·πΌββοΈπ
Anyway...I don't want to push anyone away from trying this...but please keep in mind that it is extremely predictable, focuses completely on the 2 MCs and the world is lacking π
On the bright side!..it's easy to read...way to easy π₯΄..and if you want a couple that's in a fantastical setting..this book may be what you're looking for π
