A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara

5.0

The intention behind this book (A story where the character doesn’t get better) is refreshing, and was realistically executed. I really grew to love the 4 main characters, along with Harold, Andy, Julia, and Anna. The happy moments really shined, while still managing to capture the inevitable undertones of Jude’s fate. I would have liked a little more development for Malcom, and Sophia, because I feel like after the beginning, Malcolm became a very minor character. He was a great friend to Jude, and at times, the only one keeping the group together. The book conveyed grief, trauma, denial, and mental illness in a way that was horrifying and enticing, and written with profound metaphors and prose, and that’s why I give it 5 stars.
