Morning Star by Pierce Brown

5.0

I am at a loss of words to describe this book. It is nothing short of breath-taking, sometimes literally. Glued to the page, I was anxious and scarred, excited and overjoyed, terrified, utterly shocked and broken into pieces. Especially the beginning and the end of the novel is some of the most suspenseful material I’ve ever come across, in books and on the screen. It’s glorious.*

Pierce Brown has a gift for capturing the reader's attention and painting a vivid picture of a world that is as enticing for the reader as it is dangerous for the protagonist. Great attention is paid to character development and you never really know for sure who is on which side. There are twist and turns from start to finish, giving the story pace and making it entirely unpredictable. Who will die? Who will live?

Pierce Brown truly has me hooked - I am going to read every single book this man puts out into the world.

* WARNING: This book is NOT for the faint of heart. The climax of the story got so intense that I had to take a break and do something else for an hour because otherwise I would have ended up in hospital with a heart attack.
