Cassandra Diviak’s The Signature Move follows Logan, a hockey player and Ava, a gold medal winning figure skater.
Logan is an underdog, who works hard to provide for his family and Ava is the princess that comes into his town and steals the one thing that he was about to have for himself - an interview that could get him coverage to continue his hockey dreams.
This sets off a series of events that leads to a BELIEVABLE enemies-to-lovers (and I’ve read a lot that are just silly). Diviak pretty much nailed this trope, and now I think I’ll have to be more picky with it. The smooth transition between their bickering and snarky conversations into toleration, then friendship, and then a romantic relationship is done so realistically.
The only problems that I had with this book was the pacing and the intensity of the some of the conversations. It seemed like sometimes things went from zero to one hundred, and the dialogue could be over the top sometimes. But, it was definitely something that I could overlook for how much I enjoyed the story.
Also! Sports were played!! For both the hockey and the figure skating scenes, there were detailed descriptions of what was happening - which you’d expect from a sports romance, but honestly the only other sports book (and it’s not even romance) that did that for me was Carrie Soto Is Back.
I definitely recommend this if you like the sports romance genre! And thank you to Cassandra Diviak who gave me an ARC of this book :)
