kris_mccracken 's review for:
Milkweed
by Jerry Spinelli
As much as one can, I enjoyed this novel for the most part. I was slightly frustrated with the ending (I'm not sure it was necessary), and certain historical inaccuracies annoyed me. If I were editor, I would have encouraged the author to weaken the almost omniscient narrative voice, and simply allowed such inconsistencies to be the down to the young narrator.
That said, I'm aware that it was written for younger readers, and maybe that approach - when coupled with the weighty topic - wouldn't be wise. Worth the effort.
