The Quilt & Other Stories by ʻIṣmat Cug̲h̲tāʼī
3.0

I read this for English class and, in true fashion of a person who has been forced to over-analyse a book for almost a whole semester, I could either love it more than my firstborn or hate it with a rage fit for the gods.

My experience was somewhat mixed. I found the language a bit difficult to grasp due to the simplicity of the words which made me feel like I was constantly missing some sort of context. Considering this is a translated book, maybe it would have made more sense in the language of origin.

At the same time, it was really interesting to delve into Chughtai's depiction of various themes surrounding gender inequality, classism and much more in these short but deep stories.
