The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman

4.0

Very engaging story, and I was fascinated by the concept of the Deamons. At times, I thought the plot points fell into place just a little too conveniently, or some deep mystery was suddenly explained in amazing detail by someone whose timing and placement was spectacularly serendipitous. But perhaps that is a part of the alternate reality, or of Lyra's destiny, and I am being too critical. I still enjoyed it enough to start the second book in the trilogy.
