Did not finish book.
A very, very lyrical, magical and articulate book. Why didn’t I finish it then?
There is a lot of body function talk. A lot. Is this bad? No. Did I discover I have an aversion to picking scabs in detail? Yes. For me, I couldn’t get past the body talk, which was surprising to me as I haven’t felt queasy on these topics before. However, Chang is a master of magical realism and painted such visceral, vivid pictures that I found myself unable to pick it back up.
I think others will love this, and I really enjoyed the author’s style and ability to speak in prose and metaphor, but unfortunately I just couldn’t finish it.
