The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman
3.0

Four septuagenarians with a few tricks up their sleeves.
A female cop on her first big case.
A brutal murder.
Welcome to The Thursday Murder Club.

In a quiet retirement village, four unlikely friends gather weekly in the Jigsaw Room to pore over unsolved crimes. They’ve dubbed themselves the Thursday Murder Club—but when a local developer turns up dead with a mysterious photograph beside him, the group suddenly finds themselves at the center of a real investigation. As the bodies start to pile up, the question becomes: can this unconventional team catch a killer before it’s too late?

While I can see why this book has charmed so many readers, it wasn’t quite the right fit for me. The premise is clever and the cast of eccentric “golden oldies” brings wit and warmth, but the story sometimes felt meandering, with too many side plots that slowed down the momentum. The humor and coziness were enjoyable, yet the mystery itself didn’t grip me as tightly as I had hoped.

That said, it’s a light, witty read with endearing characters, and I can understand the appeal—just not one I’d put at the top of my mystery list.
