A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini

4.0

Life in Afghanistan hasn't been normal for a long time. Being a 90's kid I have heard about the wars and had a rough idea that life wasn't easy there but never gave a thought about gender inequality.

"Like a compass needle that points north, a man’s accusing finger always finds a woman."

Women have been through a very rough time all over the world. But in Afghanistan being a woman feels like a crime. Finishing the book was very hard for me because when you think finally now justice will be done to Mariam & Laila, Life would throw yet another obstacle for them.
I have so much respect for all Mariam and Laila living in every house in Afghanistan.

After the Taliban era, most of the orthodox rules have been lifted. Women are considered equal to men. But some Afghan women still follow old rules just because of cultural pressure.
