An Optimist's Guide to Heartbreak by Jennifer Hartmann

medium-paced

2.5

I’ve avoided this duet for a long time. Yes, you read that right I didn’t want to read it. Then my  friend told me I had to so I did. Am I glad I did? I’m not sure. I’m a sucker for a grumpy MMC and Cal is definitely a grumpy a-hole. Unfortunately he never fully won me over. I continued to get more frustrated with that man. Cal & Lucy grew up next door to one another. Cal’s sister was Lucy’s best friend. Something happens and they move away leaving Lucy wondering why he’s never came back for her. They are adults now and she is determined to be Cal’s friend again but she’s keeping a secret that could potentially ruin everything between them before it even starts. I wish I could say I loved Lucy but I just didn’t. I felt that she was super naive and really made there be so much push and pull when it came to her and Cal. Like it wasn’t necessary at all. Cal always seemed so straight forward when it came to her but she wasn’t the same with him. These two gave me the worst headache but I was determined to finish it. I had full intentions of having my friend spoil the second book but I wanted to give it a chance. I made it to chapter 4 (7%) of A Pessimist’s Guide to Love and I just didn’t care. I didn’t care about the story, I didn’t care about the characters. I just didn’t care. So my friend spoiled it for me. Best decision ever.
