Ms. Hannah! This stressed me out!
First and foremost, Frankie broke my heart about a million times. The amount of loss she experienced from people close to her was so hard to push through, because it was just nonstop. And the idea that what she was dealing with post-war is a term that only just got a name around the years this took place...I can't imagine what the previous war veterans were told to overlook.
But the story lost me a bit whenFrankie started going against her own personal rules to be with Rye. Like honey, you know good and well he wasn't to be trusted, and you had no reason to trust anything he said even when he came crawling back to you. Like hate his wife or not, it was not that hard to be over him once you found out he was married. Honestly that whole plot point stressed me out. her being messy with relationships was a lil too aggravating to keep me invested in the story.
But overall, Frankie is a believable protagonist. You hurt when she does and pity her when she tries her best to move past her pain. I'm glad she got an ending that served her growing and facing what she became. No super happy sweet ending because she started to see the world for what it was.
