The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

4.0

It is an easy and short read. There were an awful lot of coincidences for the story to work. About halfway through th book I said to myself: they are one of those couple that get involved in a fuck up but are the only people that somehow come out of it unscathed and pronounce that the hard times made their relationship stronger, aren't they? Turns out they were. Man was enjoying his life and the women tried to do so but in doing so she gave false hope. Both of their affair left the other person dead. The pathetic and sad affair of the funeral of Gatsby reminded me closely of the end of Patroclus in TSOA, maybe because I just finished it few days ago. It also reminded me of what was said about Helen, how all the war will make the fable of her beauty greater/greatest. I think that was a near goal of Daisy, to have a rich husband but a more rich lover that waited 5 years for her would restore her value, which it did in the eyes of Tom.
This book was to the most a 3 star based on the plot but the beauty of the writing was just so so touching and amazing that it deserved one more star for that. I loved how the narrator often got distracted by the wind, sky and the sunset and just kept describing them in great depth.
The cherry on the top was watching the parody by The Family Guy which was surprisingly accurate in summing this book up and showed clearly the plot holes. I found out the meme template of Leonardo DiCaprio was from this movie and that it also has Amitabh Bachchan in it. So all in all I am happy that I can say that I have read The Great Gatsby.
