These young Korean women were so dehumanized, abused, and forcibly forgotten by Japan in recent history; it's absolutely unforgivable and I'll never regard Japan with the same whimsical fascination and awe. Which is probably the most hypocritical and pithy thing I could say as an American, whose country was founded on equally atrocious actions. Regardless, these women deserve to be known and acknowledged, and ultimately respected and taken care of. This book serves that purpose well, and although its contents can be brutal and heart wrenching it gives these women the chance to be heard.
