The Sunshine Court

sunshine with a big yellow flower in the cover grossly unprepared me for how painful this was going to be but call me stupid bc i should’ve known considering the series ;-; pacing was a little funky in the beginning bordering on boring (other than andriel crumbs :3) but oof once jean went to usc i was hooked.. i think the earlier 3 books kept me on the edge of my seat constantly bc neil was an unreliable narrator and we were finding things out as they happened but here we know most of what’s happened and are finding out worse details yes but there’s not the constant “jump scares” of trauma being hurdled which somehow made it more of an overall ache?? idk how to describe it but i think the earlier books were plot heavy making me more invested in the story development first and characters development second since SO much was happening but here the character development is the highlight and the plot is fairly sparse in comparison (not even the entire summer was in this book!!) focusing a lot more on jeans internal demons and the reactions of those around him discovering the truth of the man behind the rumors. i guess the earlier books were survival mode and this one is recovery/healing mode.. overall really enjoyed and i’m excited to see jeans journey to healing and hopefully the plot picking up in the next couple books
