A Girl Like Her by Talia Hibbert
4.0

Sometimes when I finish one of my books I feel like there is this part of me that dreamt the book. Not to say that to mean like... it wasn't original or a good story, because this definitely was both those things, but in the sense that the story is a little fleeting like a dream is?

You love it in the moment but the more you try to think about it the harder it is to wrap your mind around? So you only remember major details? I feel like I'm not explaining this well and this is making the story sound like it wasn't good but I promise you that's not what I mean. I think I'm too tired to sound smart right now.

Anyways, Ruth and Evan literally run into each other and are shocked by the person they see on the other side of the fall. Evan is tall and handsome and Ruth is the prettiest woman he's ever seen. But Evan doesn't keep great company and Ruth takes off, mortified that this collision even happened while she was out buying what she needed for her "period emergency" of all things.

Evan has heard a lot about Ruth since running into her, but nothing seems to quite add up to the woman he now knows he's neighbours to. Where did the lie end and the truth start? Ruth is careful when it comes to letting anyone into her life that wasn't in it to begin. After dealing with a lot of betrayal, she holds people at an arm's length away. Evan weasels his way in with food and genuine affection, and even Ruth can't ignore him anymore.

Evan was just a kind soul. He cared for Ruth but also for the people around him. He gave people the benefit of the doubt and I was really glad that this didn't turn into one of those books where the big secret is revealed and one party runs off because they aren't happy with what they hear. They had their moment and cleared up what they needed to clear up and WOW THE WORLD DIDN'T END? WHAT A SHOCK.

Evan's acceptance of every mood and attitude of Ruth is probably what I loved most about him. He took everything she gave him with a smile on his face and she really saw that this beautiful man cared about her even when she knew she was being awful to him. IT WAS SO GREAT.

I really enjoyed this. I was up all night reading it and I'm so tired my eyeballs want to escape my body. So I'm going to maybe nap. Or probably read something new. We'll see.
