i'm not sure what didn't work for me here. in theory this has everything that i could want in a book:  characters who can travel between worlds, sapphic yearning, themes of classism and race. and this book absolutely delivered on all of those points, however something was missing for me. i thought that the writing was fantastic; there were so many quotes that i loved, micaiah johnson can clearly write! the plot was super intriguing although i will say that i found the plot in the first half of the book that focused on earth 175 far more interesting that the second half where it was more focused on
taking down evil sci-fi elon musk
. also this book gets so many points for having one of the best early plot twists ever
"Caramenta died six years ago on earth 22, my home earth"
had me gagged! in terms of problems that i had, i did expect a little bit more from the romance because almost everything that i had seen about this book had praised it and said that the yearning was amazing. don't get me wrong i really enjoyed the little bits of romance that we got, i was just expecting more and i think if it had been focused on a little bit more then i would have been OBSESSED. apart from that (and honestly it isn't that big of a complaint) i can't really pin down exactly why this wasn't a new favourite like i expected it to be. but ah well, i had a fun time and absolutely flew through this in about 72 hours after being in a mini two week long reading slump so yay for that i guess.
