The story takes a speculative look at what the future could look like for our planet, the climate crisis is at a point of no return, storms become more frequent, temperatures and sea levels rise quicker than could have been anticipated.
The Light Pirate is a moving and beautifully written story which follows main character Wanda from childhood and through adulthood as she adapts to the quickly changing environment. Amongst the tragedy, sadness and hopelessness of the world there is persistence, courage, strength and love.
My favourite quote from the book “Humanity was an ecological disaster, a misstep made by an otherwise magnificently intelligent system of life and death.”
I am absolutely enthralled by Lily Brooks-Dalton’s writing style, it is thought provoking, lyrical, emotional and the characters are engaging.
