Things I Wanted to Say, But Never Did
by Monica Murphy
Do you love bully romance? Do you love steam? Do you love Alpha jerks who grow soft in the end? Then you will like this book. Whit Lancaster is one of the worst, but when he met Summer 4 years ago something inside him started to change. Summer couldn't stop thinking about the boy that gave her her first kiss when she was 14 years old and called her terrible things. Not only did it make her curious, she liked it.
Now she's finishing out highschool at Lancaster Prep and after living through a scandal, she just wants to finish school and get out. Whit has other plans for her though. Whit hates her for what her mother did to his family and he is about to punish her in any way he knows how. The only problem is, he talks a big game but he can't help being obsessed with Summer and his heart and his mind are at war.
There was a lot that I loved about this book. I adored Whit, even if he was a jerk most of the time. I love a conflicted hero and especially one that knows he is done for as soon as he meets the girl that will change everything. I loved the connection that Whit and Summer shared too, but I wish we would have seen more of it outside of the steamy scenes. I also wish we would have gotten more with Sylvie and what happened to her. I liked the mystery of what was happening with her health. While I guessed that was the case, I still would have liked to know more about what was going on. I suspect there will be another installment in this series that will explain more so that will be good.
I do understand why many people are in love with this one, because it was very angsty and he was a fantastic bully. I am in the minority here wishing there was more plot and less steam. While I love a good scene, this book had an excess of them. Now, I am well aware that many people read for the bully/steam factor and if that is what you want, I will recommend this book to you immediately. Even though Summer was "strong" and could take all the bullying, I just didn't connect with her and her thirst for being treated that way. I wish she would have stood up a little more to Whit and not caved every time he touched her.
3.5 stars for me. If you like highschool bully romance, I urge you to read this because, again, I am in the minority here.
