Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy
5.0
I've been meaning to read this book since I was 12 years old and I finally got around to it. Man, I wish I'd read this book when I was 12 years old. It's a total self indulgent 12-year-old fantasy and I would have loved it. I mean, I still loved it as an adult. But this is exactly the kind of escapism I needed at that age.
Let me start by saying that Skulduggery Pleasant is not a responsible adult. SKULDUGGERY. PLEASANT. IS NOT. A RESPONSIBLE. ADULT. This little girl refuses to give you back your hat and you say, whoops, shrug, guess I just have to take you on dangerous missions now? You're so transparent. You just want to adopt this child.
Ghastly: What do you have there?
Skulduggery: A child.
Ghastly: NO!!
Anyway, I love him. I love Valkyrie, too, who I feel like I would have really identified with as a 12-year-old. I enjoyed the world, and the atmosphere. I listened to the audiobook, which had just fantastic voices. Overall, fantastic, glad I finally got around to this. Can't wait to read the next one.
