The Space Merchants by Frederik Pohl, C.M. Kornbluth
3.0

Whew! Not the book I was prepared for whatsoever - I think I thought about a farce of merchants traveling across space in a more Mission To Zyxx fashion. I should have been much more prepared for a very 1950s science fiction story, from the requisite baseline heteronormative domesticity to the anti-consumerist politics to the nascent beginnings of the science fiction dream: to (maybe) travel beyond the boundaries of Earth, to really and truly go beyond... a "classic" for a reason, but less and more well read for all that.
