Psyren, Volume 1
by Toshiaki Iwashiro
Oooh! I’m fascinated! Too bad my library doesn’t have volume 2. *grumble grumble*
A sci-fi glimpse at the future, where monsters roam the earth and where the world is in ruins. Volume 1 didn’t really give a lot of answers at what Psyren is or why it exists, which is why I want to read volume 2 ASAP. Obviously — I didn’t expect volume 1 to give everything away — in fact I was quite surprised by the tantalizing glimpse of the rest of the series, while keeping the ending from not quite feeling like a cliffhanger (because god I hate cliffhangers and I get peeved when authors use them religiously).
The art was fantastic too and definitely enhanced the storyline. I loved the visions of what future earth looks like (well, “loved” — a very dystopic and bleak vision, but well-portrayed through the artwork). The monsters were fairly original and well-drawn as well.
I’ll have to see about putting volume 2 on hold at the library, because I want to keep reading!
