etemp 's review for:
The Falcon and the Foe
by A.J. Truman
funny
lighthearted
"an ADHD dad meets an autism dad, and there was only one tent"
boy-scout-dad-smut was not on my 2024 bingo card, but here we are, and it was really cute. while i appreciate the unique representation, it is always a bit of an ick for me when grown ups get nasty in close-ish proximity to children. there's one scene where they're getting down and are almost discovered by their scout troop, and yea that's not for me. for that reason, the soundproof recording booth scene was literally perfect, no notes, very steamy.
i kept expecting the miscommunication trope or a super homophobic PTA mom, but the main conflict of the book is just these two men coming to terms with their attraction to each other and reconciling their differences. very low stakes with one high-intensity trauma moment toward the end.
