What a book! The thrills! The romance! The sex scenes! The cliffhanger ending! I definitely see why people just inhale the entire series in like 3 days.

I love the revenge plot, it’s like if Promising Young Woman wasn’t stymied by its need to be realistic and cynical about the world. Truly a “good for her” book, kill those motherfuckers, Lana. Can’t wait to see how Lana and Logan butt heads when they end up on opposite sides of the field.

This might be the first “straightforward” (nothing straightforward about this book) romance novel I’ve read in a long time and it is very fun to dive back into the genre. The banter between the protagonists is great, cheesy, flirty, fills me with those “beginning of courting” jitters. Also, coming fresh of The First Law series, set in an ugly world, with ugly people, doing ugly things, it is refreshing reading a sex scene that is not all “cock, balls, c*nt, and squelching”, they serve a purpose there, but the ones here feel passionate rather than animalistic.

Overall I really liked it, my only complaint is the FBI mumbo jumbo. Maybe I’ve read and watched too many detective stories, but a lot of the investigation scenes and profiling feel like Sherlock fanfiction (“DaVinci!!!!”) but who cares, I’m not reading this because I want an accurate police procedural.
