Lolita
by Vladimir Nabokov
What to say about this? Beautifully written, a stunning plot structure, and creepy. When I finished the book, I no longer trusted old men who had the same first and last name. Humbert Humbert's unrelenting obsession with his young "nymphet" was something that I found interesting (not in a creepy way) and made the book what it is now. The intents of Lolita herself were often mixed though.
Sometimes I thought she was resisting Humbert, while other times I thought she was seducing him. Little girls flirt naturally, but Lolita's actions only encouraged this man who continually raped her night after night.
The subject of this book is controversial, and when I checked it out of the library, the librarian at the desk gave me an odd look. I can see why many critics analyze this book even during the years after it was published. Humbert's insanity at the endmade the book even more interesting to read, and even after I was done with the book I felt like the story still hadn't finished itself.
